General Programme (GP) |
Study Programmes Geshe Kelsang Gyatso (or Geshe-la, as he is affectionately called by his students), has designed three spiritual programs for the systematic study and practice of Kadampa Buddhism that are especially suited to the modern world. Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist school founded by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha (982-1054 AD). Continuing through him, Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings have been passed down through an unbroken lineage of accomplished meditators, including Geshe Potowa, Je Tsongkhapa, Phabongkha Rinpoche, and Trijang Rinpoche to our own spiritual director, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. We offer three study programmes: The General Programme (GP) provides basic introduction to Buddhist view, mediation, and practice that is suitable for beginners. It also includes advanced teachings and practice for both Sutra and Tantra. The Foundation Programme (FP) provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddhism through a systematic study of five texts. The Teacher Training Programme (TTP) is designed for people who wish to train as authentic Dharma Teachers. In addition to completing the study of 12 texts of Sutra and Tantra (which include the five studied on FP), the student is required to observe certain commitments with regard to behavior and way of life, and to complete a number of meditation retreats.
