About Our Teachers

Our Spiritual Director is Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a fully accomplished Buddhist meditation master and scholar. Originally from Tibet, he has dedicated the last 25 years to establishing Kadampa Buddhism in the west by establishing more than 800 Centers worldwide. He is the author of 19 highly acclaimed books and is perfectly placed to bring the ancient wisdom of Buddha into contemporary western society. Geshe Kelsang has designed three special spiritual programs for the systematic study and practice of Kadampa Buddhism that are especially suited to the modern world.

Our Resident Teacher is Gen Kelsang Thaye, a Buddhist nun who is Geshe Kelsang’s representative in Blackpool. A senior Student of Geshe Kelsang, Thaye has studied and practiced Buddhism for many years. She has taught in Canada and at Manjushri Centre in Ulverston (the mother center of the New NKT) and has engaged in numerous meditation retreats (including solitary silent retreat). Thaye presents Buddha’s teachings in a clear and practical way.
